We are delighted to announce that Olive Tree Primary School and the team will be coming to your local radiowaves – Inspire FM (105.1FM)! We are more excited that this will be on the blessed 27th night of Ramadan – 19th May from 6pm until 10pm!
On this blessed night, we will be raising money to support the school’s campaign: Project Iqra (to read).
This project is about providing our pupils with a wide range of books, these can be categorised into four sections:
- General Library books (includes a mix of secular and Islamic reads)
- Guided reading library books (levelled/ banded books to track pupils progress)
- Guided reading books (to be used for teaching small ability groups)
- Curriculum books (those that will be used to deliver the English curriculum)
Reading opens avenues, brings about revolutionary change. We know from our rich history that Muslims hold the highest ranks in Islamic, scientific, medical, and mathematical discoveries – and because of that, our scholars have been envied for many years. It is so important that we pass on our wonderful legacy of learning to our children, and one of the best ways to accomplish that is to read to them.
Reading is the key to knowledge; it helps you grow mentally, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. Islam places a huge emphasis on reading. This is evident in the fact that the first words revealed to our beloved Prophet ﷺwas “Read, in the name of your Lord who created, man from a clot. Read, for your Lord is most generous, who teaches by means of the pen, teaches man what they know not…” (al-‘Alaq: 1-5)
The first command that Allah sent down to His Messenger; to read. Thus, we too want to follow this path by encouraging our pupils to read.
The greatest miracle that our Prophet ﷺ was sent with was a book; the Qur’an. This is a book that we read, understand and implement in our lives. The fact that a miracle was in the form of a book shows us that reading is the basis of understanding and that we as Muslims should place a lot of importance on reading.
Through this project, you will be empowering our pupils to discover themselves, become confident readers, impart valuable lessons from years of experiences and have better access to other areas of the curriculum allowing them to reach their full potential.
Although the immense blessings of giving charity during Ramadan is well known, giving on the Night of Power is akin to receiving the reward of having given charity every day for 1000 months, so even a £5 donation would be similar to donating £50,000!
What’s more, not only is this a Sadaqah Jaariyah donation, for you to reap this beautiful reward of ongoing charity, but we’ve pledged 5% of our donations to Muslim Aid, for children in need around the world. Given the current pandemic, we are limited with other fundraising mechanisms and rely on your generosity.
